How Sleeping With a Partner Can Affect Your Sleep

Sleeping with someone else in your bed affects your sleep, both positively and negatively. There are many downfalls of sleeping with a partner, but almost all of them can be fixed with a few simple tricks.  Here are the major ways that sleeping with a partner changes the way you sleep.

Snoring

In almost every couple, there is likely to be snorer. Snoring can keep you awake all night and negatively affect your sleep. Having your partner sleep on their side can help to prevent snoring. Additionally, propping their head up with a comfortable pillow will help to cease the snores so you both can get uninterrupted sleep.

Conflicting Temperature Preferences

Some like it hot while others prefer a cool mattress. No one should have to compromise when it comes to good sleep quality. Thankfully, there are a number of smart mattress options that allow you to adjust the temperature of each side of the bed individually. Eight’s smart mattresses can even heat up and cool down each side of the bed automatically during the night so you can always fall into a warm, cozy bed or a chilly cold one of that’s of your liking.

Blanket Hogging

We can’t help with your partner using the last of the toilet paper and not replacing it, but there’s a simple solution for when your partner takes all of the blanket. If one of you constantly pulls the covers, it can lead to a restless, sleepless night. Each of you simply sleeping with your own blanket will make all the difference.

Tossing and Turning

If your partner is a restless sleeper who constantly tosses, turns, and occasionally kicks you in their sleep, it undoubtedly prevents you from getting a good night’s sleep. However, it may not actually be their fault. Tossing and turning could mean that the mattress is actually the issue. An old and/or uncomfortable mattress can cause both you and your partner to get a poor night’s rest. Look into replacing your mattress to stop the tossing and turning for good.

Conflicting Schedules

Chances are, your sleep schedules aren’t identical. One of you may wake up earlier than the other and consequently wake up your partner unintentionally.  To avoid this, choose a mattress with minimal to no movement transfer; foam mattresses like are great for this.

Strengthens relationship

One of the ways that sleeping with a partner can positively affect your sleep is that it makes you feel more connected in your relationship.  Falling asleep next to a warm body each night relaxes you and makes it easier to fall asleep. Plus, who doesn’t love cuddling with someone they love and trust?

Sleeping with a partner completely changes the way that you sleep, but by following the above tips, you can both get a good night’s sleep every night.
