Average Toss & Turns by State

The amount of toss and turns per night is an indication of restlessness. The more toss and turns, the poorer the quality of one's sleep typically is. In the US, people toss and turn an average of 16 times per night. People in Vermont toss and turn the least with an average of 8 times per night while people in North Dakota toss and turn an average of 21 times. We break down the average toss and turns per state in the map below.

Average Deep Sleep by Region

The Eight Sleep Tracker also measures the amount of deep and light sleep per night. Deep sleep is characterized by extremely slow brain waves, low heart rate, and relaxed muscles. During this time, it is very difficult to wake someone up. Deep sleep is important because it allows your body to rebuild and repair itself. Many studies recommend that deep sleep should be at lest 20% of your overall sleep.

Based on the sleep data collected from all 50 states, only Arizona fell just under the mark, with an average of 19.9% of deep sleep. Vermont had the highest average deep sleep with 25.5%. The map below shows the average percentage of deep sleep per region. According to the map, the mountain states seem to be getting the most deep sleep.
